It doesn’t matter if you are a business owner of a marketer, you always need more ways to increase traffic to your website.
This is because more traffic, means more readers, leads, clients.
But, before you go and get your traffic through the roof, be sure that you have implemented everything you need to convert that traffic.
Don’t get me wrong, traffic is great.
But if you don’t convert it, then all that traffic doesn’t mean jack.
So, you are probably here, because you don’t have enough traffic on your website.
Okay maybe you just want more, and that’s fine too.
If you want your business website to be successful you need traffic and you need to convert it.
It doesn’t go one without the other.
Now, let us see how to increase traffic to your business website.
1. Have A Good SEO Strategy
This doesn’t mean just link building. It means that you lay the foundation for your traffic from search engines.
Implement all necessary things on site.
Do the keyword research.
Include keywords in your piece of content (don’t do keyword stuffing).
Make sure you include images in your post.
Write alt tags for images and also optimize them.
It’s not a bad idea to write descriptions for your images.
2. Post Long Form Content
Based on a research that Brian Dean did back in 2016, he found out that long-form content tends to rank better in search engines.
The average post on the number one position had 1890 words.
But that doesn’t mean that less or more words are wrong.
However, remember that Google likes to put good in-depth content in front of people.
3. Reduce Your Bounce Rate
This means that you get people to stay on your website longer and they open up another page.
Bounce rate means that your visitors are opening up just one page per session.
And after that, they click a back button.
Lower the bounce rate the better and more beneficial is for your search engine ranking.
And what does that mean?
Of course more traffic.
You can lower your bounce rate by, having your content above the fold.
Or make them want more of your content.
Limit your paragraphs to max 3 sentences, so you eliminate a big chunk of text.
4. Create a Resource Or Favourite Tool Page
What is this?
Well, this is a page where you list all the resources that you find helpful on a topic you are writing a resource page on.
The same goes for a tool page.
Then you can get in contact with them to let them know that you included them.
Don’t forget to share it on Twitter and tag them in your tweet.
Do it on other social media too.
This can also be a list post, like this one, that you are reading right now.
If you enabled marketing cookies, you can see a set of share buttons on your left.
Now if you like what you see you can share the article on your favorite social media account.
You can do this on your content and get people to share your posts.
This way more people will see your post and more people will click on the link.
So, you will get more traffic.
6. Create An Expert Roundup Posts
This can be a great way to start your relationships with important influencers in your niche.
Create a list of 20 – 30 people that you would like to get in touch with and send them an email.
In that email let them know that you are creating your roundup post and would love their contribution about a topic that you are interested in.
Make sure they are influencers for that topic.
After you get responses, finish the article and share the post with them on social media.
Mention their Twitter handle or Facebook handle.
That way you can get a lot of traffic and new relationships with your target influencers.
7. Publish Your Content On Social Media
Well as simple as it seems, people still forget the distribution.
You are not finished when you hit that “publish” button.
Your masterpiece is created, but it won’t matter if you just wait for people to find it.
Share it and show it to the World.
Make use of your social media channels.
8. Go For Long-Tail Keywords
These keywords are more focused.
You will be attracting more targeted visitors.
Long-tail keywords are also the ones that present the majority of web search.
They are not put together by only 1-2 word, but more 4-5 words, so they can really help you get the traffic you are looking for.
9. Seek Guest Post Opportunities
Okay, first let’s make one thing clear.
Make sure you only search for genuine opportunities.
Guest blogging opportunities should be related to your niche or industry.
You should write about your industry, so you can also link back to your website in your bio or in your post.
If you don’t follow these you can get penalized by Google.
10. Write Answers On Quora
This one is quite simple, but still not that well known.
You can find any topic on Quora.
Doesn’t matter what you do, you can find people asking questions.
So make sure you provide an answer to their questions.
Don’t forget to put a link to your post in the answer.
That way you will be able to generate a massive traffic back to your website.
Is it that easy?
You just really need to provide a valuable answer, not just post your link.
It can even help you get new blog post ideas and when you finish the article post the answer to that question that inspired you.
11. Create Videos For YouTube
You can create “how to” videos.
YouTube is a great opportunity for driving more traffic to your website as it is the second biggest search engine in the world.
Make sure to go and find the right keyword for your titles.
My tip is to make use of a browser addon “Keywords Everywhere”.
This way you’ll find the search volume and the competition.
But remember that YouTube SEO is a bit different as it doesn’t rank videos based on links.
12. Be Active On Instagram
You have probably all heard of people that have used Instagram for growth and drove a ton of traffic to their websites.
You can too.
Just make sure you publish regularly about your niche.
Provide insights, be helpful.
My tip would be to not try and be famous but be useful and provide value.
13. Syndicate Your Content To Medium
It’s a good idea to publish to a blogging platform as Medium.
Thin thing is that Medium has a big user base, so you can get a lot of exposure.
You can easily import your posts to Medium with its built-in feature.
Whenever you do a syndication of content make sure you include a canonical URL to your original content.
This way you can avoid the problem of duplicate content and the danger that you republished content would outrank your original content.
Here is a great content syndication tutorial.
14. Republish Your Content To LinkedIn
You can leverage LinkedIn almost the same as Medium.
LinkedIn also gives you the opportunity to build your reputation.
Long are gone the days when LinkedIn was just for searching new job.
Now it’s one of the biggest B2B social media out there.
My suggestion would be to maybe slightly change
Alternate the title.
Change the text a bit.
And make sure to add a canonical URL, so you will also redirect traffic to your website.
After all the whole point is to get traffic to your website.
15. Build An Email List
You already know that email lists are important.
Email marketing is still going strong and you should leverage its power.
So you need to build email lists to have a resource where you can always send an email and get traffic to your website.
Of course, don’t spam your subscribers.
To build an email list create a lead magnet.
That way you can collect contact data.
Have GDPR in mind, because in EU you cannot anymore sell lead magnet for an email in a traditional way that we have done before.
In my opinion, the best way to do it is, that you redirect the visitor to a landing page, where they can download the lead magnet and give you the email address.
16. Click To Tweet
A great way to promote your quotes or even strategies inside of the list that you have prepared.
I would just like to suggest that you keep in mind Brian Deans advice, don’t use more than 3 links in your post.
It will give your visitors a pre-written tweet, that will make sharing a breeze.
And you will get more traffic.
17. Repurpose Your Content
Yep, transform it into a different type of content.
Take your post and create an infographic, video, ebook or podcast.
You can also do it in reverse.
First, you have a podcast and then create post, video or ebook.
18. Try To Get A Guest To Post On Your Blog
Yes, guest blogging can go in two ways.
It can boost your traffic, because this post will be promoted, by you and the guest writer/blogger.
So it’s a good idea to find someone that would be interested in writing an article for your website.
You can find help in this post by Hubspot “How to find great writers”.
19. Create a Free Email Course
This can be a great idea to get new contacts to your list, while you provide a great value to your audience.
As I already said, email marketing is still strong and with this, you can build your list fast.
You get two benefits.
YOur website will generate traffic from your free email course (make a separate landing page).
Later you will be able to generate traffic from your subscribers list.
20. Make Your Website Mobile Friendly
Okay, yes, this is an old one and all, but…
Many businesses are still underestimating the power of mobile devices.
Remember, that mobile-friendly website can help your potential clients to find you on the go.
But it can also rank you higher in search engines, which means more web traffic for you.
21. Implement Internal Linking
Yes, that’s right.
Include links to your blog posts where you can.
And no, I don’t mean throw them in everywhere.
Make sure they are related to the post your visitors are reading. That way you links are providing additional value.
Don’t push in it, as you don’t want your post to look like Wikipedia page.
22. Improve Your Click Through Rate On Search Engines
This means that you don’t need higher ranking in search results to get more organic traffic
All you need to do is persuade more people to click your link.
And as this is one of the ranking signals, you can also get your website to rank higher.
You can do this by writing a more compelling meta description and a better headline.
Find examples by looking at the ones that are in first places and check out ads.
Because they are usually written to persuade people to click them.
Don’t copy them, use them as your inspiration.
23. Use QR Code For Offline Promotion
This one is a bit different, I admit.
Neil Patel is the guilty one that inspired me to include it.
It can really help you bring in more traffic from an offline promotion.
Of course, the code itself won’t help. Add an attractive headline or offer a special discount.
This way people can visit your site simply by scanning the code with their mobile phones.
You can generate a free QR code here.
24. Make Your Website Load Fast
No one wants to wait too long for the website to load.
And we already mentioned the importance of bounce rate.
If your website is taking too long to load, your bounce rate will rocket sky high.
To make your website faster, make sure you optimize your images and code.
Implement caching and of course CDN (content delivery network).
This will make your website lightning fast.
Don’t forget that page speed is one of the ranking factors and even more important in the mobile-first index.
25. Exchange An Ad With Some Other Website
Find a website, that isn’t your direct competitor and try to exchange ads.
You will show an ad that will direct traffic to them and they will do the same on their website.
That way you will not only get the regular traffic that you already have but will add a new stream of traffic.
While you will also provide an additional stream of traffic to the website you are helping to promote.
Arrange your ad exchange to run for at least 3 months, to get the best results.
Of course, you can run for longer.
26. Conduct An Interview With Experts In Your Industry
No one knows more about your industry than you.
Not even the marketing or digital agency that is helping you.
Make a list of people that are taught as the experts in your industry and try to get them to answer your interview questions.
It’s great if you can create a post out of it.
But it can be even better you get them to answer your questions on video or do a podcast with you.
You’ll get two parties to promote the interview, yourself and the team behind the expert.
And of course, your credibility will increase too.
This will also boost your traffic.
SlideShare has more than 80 million users.
So turning your posts into SlideShare presentations can really pay off.
The thing is that these presentations are also Google friendly so they can increase your visibility.
This can then lead to more traffic if you put a link back to your website.
Check Neil Patel’s guide.
28. Post Videos On LinkedIn
Create short videos and post them on LinkedIn.
LinkedIn is gaining popularity. Especially for B2B.
And videos are having priority in reach, so they are a great way to increase clicks to your profile and consequently to your website.
You now have the option to use native LinkedIn video uploads, just like Facebook.
29. Do Blogger Outreach
Find people on social media, that have shared content on your topic and reach out to them and try to get them to share or mention your content.
Send them an email similar to this:
Hi [their name],
This is [Your name] and I saw that you recently shared an article [article] from [author], that I really liked.
I have recently written a similar article that you may like. Interested in reading it?
Do understand, that not everyone will respond and that’s fine.
30. Be Active On Social Media
Now we already talked about publishing your content on social media, but this ain’t that.
Comment on posts that other publish.
Show your expertise.
Join Facebook groups or LinkedIn groups. Comment and help people out.
Share your content when appropriate. Don’t do a shameless self-promotion.
Comment on Instagram posts, Tweets.
Get your voice heard out there.
Build value and show your expertise.
31. Comment On Blogs In Your Industry
You most likely read blogs that are related to your line of work.
So try to be helpful and comment on posts.
I know that many blogs close comments because of spam, but you can find blogs that have comments open for a few weeks.
But be sure not to be spammy.
If you comment, provide value and write a real answer.
Don’t just promote your posts.
In most cases, you will be able to put a link in your bio or name.
32. Update Your Old Posts
If you have any posts, that are a few years old, you can update them and treat them as new posts.
Then od a promotion with them.
Republish posts to social media.
This can revive their life and bring you new web traffic.
33. Run A Giveaway Or Contest
People love free stuff.
This can be a great opportunity for you to bring in new traffic, get more followers and build an email list.
That way you future traffic can also get a boost.
It’s a great way to get in front of your potential buyers.
Be sure to check the law and regulations about running a contest in your country.
34. Get The Traffic Source Of Your Competitors
Ever wondered what are top sources of your competitor’s web traffic.
Well you can get to know that with a tool from SimilarWeb
You can get pretty good insights for free of charge.
When you know what are the top traffic sources, try to get that traffic to your website.
35. Advertise Your Website
For quick and short-term solution try running ads on Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn.
Try to run AdWords or other PPC ads.
This can help you get more traffic.
But remember to have your website ready for new traffic.
This means, your server can host that kind of traffic, that your website has what it takes to convert that traffic.
I would suggest that you create a landing page for your ads, so you can hold your promise in the ads.
Remember to have your ads targeted and focused.
These are tactics that I believe will help you increase traffic and can be done by every business owner.
Yes, they can take your time.
But if you have someone in the company that can help you it can do wonders with them.
These can bring in new and fresh traffic.
Of course, it’s important to have a website, that is able to convert some of that traffic to new subscribers, leads and new clients.
With these tips, you can build your traffic and your reputation.
That’s why I hope you find it useful and use it in your everyday business building.
